Somatics and Arts
In the evolutionary theory formulated by Charles Darwin, the adaptability of the organism to the environment is the absolute precondition for the mutation and evolution of life.
I believe that understanding this hierarchical relationship is not only fundamental for the epigenetic research but also for the development of any cognitive skills, including those relating to Performing Arts.
In this light the Soma (living organism) and specifically the development of processes governing the vestibular sensory system become of primary importance to the pedagogical approach of all Artistic discipline.
Until today the principles implicit in Darwin´s theory have had very little impact upon pedagogical approaches in Music, Dance, and Visual Arts.
My hope is that visionary studies of human bipedality, together with the latest research about Neuroscience, will lead to the recognition of past and new methodologies relevant for the education in Arts and Humanities.
